Very often visitors mistake Ooty
for Nilgiris! In fact, not even the whole of Ooty but the short stretch
of commercial area with the botanical gardens at the one end and the
lake at the other!! Naturally, they go back disappointed!!!
Nilgiris is in fact a complete
REGION in itself with its own distinct environment, culture, history
and even pre-history. Ooty, Coonoor, Gudalur and Kotagiri are its townships
or hill stations.
To really see, appreciate and enjoy
the Nilgiris, one has to have a taste of its unique and varying landscapes,
its balmy weather, the rich plant and animal life AND its indigenous
people.
How much time will it take to see
the Nilgiris is like asking how much time it takes to see nature? It
depends on the inclination of the individual visitor.
